The seeds of the castor plant (ricinus communis), are cold pressed to extract their natural oils. A cold press is used to preserve the beneficial components during the pressing of the oil, as a hot press can degrade the oil quality. Castor oil is made up of triglycerides and phytochemical compounds, including:

Ricinoleic Acid

Typically comprising 90% of the castor oil, ricinoleic acid is a monounsaturated fatty acid. Ricinoleic acid is believed to be the component responsible for castor oil’s numerous health properties. Ricinoleic acid is a skin moisturiser and anti-inflammatory. It can also help to stimulate the intestines as a natural laxative.

Storage
